about
After a gig at our San Antonio home away from home "The Lonesome Rose" a young man approached me. He introduced himself and told me how much he enjoyed our set. I asked his name and where he was from, he told me that him and his brother were from Amarillo and would frequently come to San Antonio to "raise hell". Somewhere along the conversation he said that he did not understand why nobody had written an answer song to the George Strait hit "Amarillo By Morning" and called it "San Antonio By Sundown". I replied that I did not know but that if it hadn't been written I'd go home and write it. Turns out it wasn't, so I did.
The Single was recorded at Yellow Dog Studios and was produced by Adam Odor. It features guest appearances from Zach Moulton and Mike Harmeierof Mike and the Moonpies and cover artwork by Thaddeus Pasierb.
lyrics
“San Antonio by Sundown”
John Mutchler ASCAP
I went chasing my dreams out on the road
sold most of my possessions tried to lighten my load
said darlin’ I still love you but this birds gotta fly
I’ve just got to find out what's laying on the other side
The punches kept on coming it brought me to my knees
I was crying on my suitcase when it occurred to me
the one thing that I needed I left back at home
I knew that I was wrong when I realized I couldn’t breathe without you
-Chorus-
San Antonio by sundown is where I need to be
I’m on my way back from Amarillo with me tail between my knees
I hope she’s still waiting I hope that she ain’t gone
she’s the only thing I have left back in San Anton
Pushing aside what was left of my pride
I topped off my tank and made that seven hour drive
how could I be so stupid why did I take so long
I’ll either find her waiting or I’ll find a cold and empty home
